Moscow to Hold Nuclear Talks With Pyongyang

Russian senior officials will meet North Korea’s chief nuclear negotiator in Moscow on Thursday "as part of efforts to resume the six-party talks" with Pyongyang over ending its atomic program.

Kim Kye Gwan, North Korea's First Deputy Foreign Minister, will visit Moscow next week to hold consultations with Deputy Foreign Ministers Vladimir Titov and Igor Morgulov on the entire set of issues surrounding the North Korean nuclear program, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Friday evening.

North Korea walked out of the six-party discussion with South Korea, the United States, Japan, Russia and its main ally China in 2009 in response to UN sanctions.

Tensions over North Korea’s nuclear program soared earlier this year after the reclusive state carried out its third nuclear test since 2006, drawing global discontent and stricter UN sanctions.
