Rostechnadzor Commission will check the readiness of the first unit of the Kalinin NPP for operation until 2044 AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 26.01.2025 The Commission of the Volga Interregional Territorial Administration of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostechnadzor) has started work at the Kalinin NPP. According to the Rosenergoatom website, within two weeks, experts will verify the accuracy of the information provided by Kalinin NPP with an application for a license for further operation of power unit No. 1 in an extended service life. During the inspection, representatives of Rostechnadzor will check the fulfillment of the requirements of regulatory documents during the execution and registration of the results of work in the additional period of operation, the implementation of measures to modernize and replace elements that have reached their end of life, registration and technical inspection of equipment. As explained by Viktor Ignatov, director of the Kalinin NPP, power unit No. 1 has generated more than 270 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity since its launch in 1984. In 2014, the unit underwent a life extension procedure and, in accordance with the decision of the Rosatom State Corporation, further operation until 2044 was recognized as justified. It is expected that the final decision on the readiness of power unit No. 1 of the Kalinin NPP for continued operation in an additional service life will be made by Rostechnadzor in the first half of 2025.
