Prospects for international partnership in the implementation of MBIR reactor project will be discussed within ATOMEXPO-2022 Press service of IRC MBIR Consortium Leader LLC, PUBLISHED 19.11.2022 IRC MBIR Consortium Leader LLC will hold a roundtable "MBIR, a Unique Platform for International Partnership", as part of 12th International Forum ATOMEXPO-2022 in Sochi, November 22. Representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), China Nuclear Energy Research Institute, Algeria Atomic Energy Committee, Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Research Institute of Nuclear Power Plant Operation of Armenia, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan, and representatives of Rosatom will participate in the roundtable. The panelists will discuss the prospects for international scientific cooperation in the construction and operation of Multipurpose Fast Research Reactor (MBIR). They will share experience in international scientific cooperation and discuss the prospects for future joint research at MBIR reactor facility. They will also discuss the development of nuclear research infrastructure, the status of MBIR project construction, and the establishment of MBIR-based International Research Center. The multipurpose fast research reactor (MBIR) is being constructed as part of the "Development of Equipment, Technologies, and Scientific Research in the Use of Nuclear Energy in the Russian Federation" comprehensive program. The construction site is located in Dimitrovgrad (Ulyanovsk region) based on SSC RIAR JSC (Rosatom enterprise). International Research Center (IRC) for MBIR is established based on MBIR reactor. The scientific group will include Russian and foreign scientists and researchers. Consortium MBIR International Research Center will carry out activities of the center. New participants can join the MBIR project by signing the Consortium Agreement. It is the legal registration of the parties' relations and establishes the rights and obligations of the stakeholders for the use of MBIR reactor after its commissioning. Russian and foreign partners have an opportunity to run experiments necessary for national peaceful nuclear energy development programs without having to directly own the reactor facility (and the associated obligations to ensure a safe facility operation, monitor and account for nuclear materials, and financial and legal obligations). This approach allows for a flexible use of the reactor resource that meets the needs of scientific community members.
